Refractories for Blast Furnace

Blast furnace is shaft furnace which burns coke by hot air to reduce iron ore to metallic iron.
High density high alumina brick is used for furnace throat usually. The furnace body and the central temperature is only 400-800℃, no slag formation. Advanced refractories, such as high alumina brick and silica wire brick, are used for this this area.
Small blast furnaces may use cheap clay or high alumina bricks, while larger ones use silicon carbide or even sialon-bonded corundum bricks.Graphite bricks and microporous carbon bricks with high density, good thermal conductivity and good erosion resistance are used in the bottom of furnace
