Refractories&Aluminum Industry

The annual output of aluminum ranks the first in the world nonferrous metal production, far more than other nonferrous metals. The aluminum industry consumes more refractories than the sum quantity of copper smelting, lead smelting and zinc smelting used.
The production of metallic aluminium has two steps: first, alumina is produced from bauxite ore by wet combustion method. Second,metallic aluminium is produced by fused salt electrolysis process with commercial alumina as raw material.
The high-temperature kilns used in the production process include rotary kiln, molten-salt container and aluminum melting furnace.
The reason why the aluminum industrial furnace has a high consumption of refractories is that rotary refractories are seriously eroded by the alkaline matters when producing Al2O3.
